It's official!!! this 'Black Friday' we are joining a movement of dedicated adventure seekers, who are going against the retail grain and 'Opting Outside' and breaking free from the sales driven definitive bargain hunting day as we know it, to just simply get outside!
The #OptOutside campaign is the brainchild of Seattle based outdoor retailer REI, who decided 4years ago to shut all 154 stores on Black Friday and rebel against the endless screen time and shopping frenzy that this marketing craze has created. They paid all their staff and openly encouraged everyone to spend the day outside instead.
REI quote: "OptOutside isin't about Black Friday, it's a mind-set. It's important to spend more time outside all year long and of recognising the importance the outdoors has on our health and wellbeing"
Also following suit to #OptOutside this year is our friends at our favourite paddleboard suppliers Red Paddle Co who are also locking up and taking to the water and having a morning paddle in their hometown of South Devon.
Red Paddle Co quote: "because we think spending time outside is more important"
Likewise is our change robe specialist supplier Dryrobe, who were infact the 1st company in the UK, back in 2015 to buck the Black Friday trend and join the #Optoutside movement and insist its 'more about the simplicity and an appreciation of the great outdoors' and they don't want to 'reinforce any ideal we aspire to promote'
So this year Abersoch Watersports is following the heart, heads and genius inspiration of the folks at REI, Red Paddle Co and Dryrobe and the rest of the #OptOutside brigade. We massively value the support and continued loyalty of our customers but feel the Black Friday notion is not what were about, we're hugely dedicated to our beloved watersports industry and feel we'd rather practice what we preach on this day of consumerism excess, so who wants to join us?
We're not insisting on any huge epic adventures, the choice is yours, a hike up a hill, a wander round the park, a trundle along the beach, a paddleboard down the river, a trip to your favourite fishing spot, a lunchtime surf, just turn off that screen and #OptOutside appreciate and smile!
