The RYA training RIB has come off the moorings for the season, which feels like a pretty good moment to look back at our first year as an RYA Training Centre here in Abersoch.

And we’re rather proud of this one. Since becoming an RYA Training Centre, Andy has spent the season putting some brilliant groups through their RYA Powerboat Level 2 courses, both on our own training RIB and on clients’ own boats.

Our RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course is a two-day practical course designed to give you the skills and confidence to safely handle a powerboat.
There’s plenty of time actually behind the wheel, covering the important stuff including boat handling, coming alongside, slow-speed manoeuvres and man-overboard recovery.
Find out more about our RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course here:

And having watched our first season of courses come together, we’ve learnt a few things ourselves…
1. Slow is pro;Good boat handling rarely needs rushing.
2. Everyone learns differently; Hear it, see it or just get behind the wheel and do it.
3. Confidence comes quickly; Especially once you understand the why, not just the how.
4. Coming alongside is an art; Nailing it for the first time is VERY satisfying — for the client and the coach.
5. No two courses are the same; Same course. Different people, boats and conditions.

Powerboat training doesn’t stop with summer; The RIB might be out of the water, but that definitely doesn’t mean we’re done. If the conditions are playing ball, she can very easily go straight back in for a two-day RYA Powerboat Level 2 course in Abersoch. We can also run training on your own boat where appropriate.
And if you’re already thinking ahead to next season, get in touch and we’ll get some dates in the diary.
First season as an RYA Training Centre… done. ✌️

Well Done Andy.....Bring on year two.
