Surf Shop Nostalgia

Surf Shop Nostalgia

We posted this on our socials on International Surf Shop Day on 17th May and it got so much love, I guess a bit of surf shop nostalgia took everyone right back, so here it is, surfing on in different form as a blog post........

If 12-year-old Woods knew he’d one day own a surf shop, he’d think all his dreams had come true.

Woods: “There’s just something about a surf shop. The smell of neoprene, those fresh white surfboards you’re not really meant to touch but have to slide a sneaky hand down the rail. The cool people behind the counter who somehow always seemed way cooler than we will ever will be now!

We’d pop in just to rummage through the sticker basket, check out the Animal watch straps and wallets (if you know, you know), flick through the latest Thrasher, Carve, or Wavelength, dreaming about the next board, the next trip, the next session.

Back then, it was about Ocean Pacific, Gotcha, SMP, Hot Tuna, Local Motion. R.I.P. to some truly legendary surf brands.

No social media, no fancy edits, just mags, VHS tapes, and soaking up everything in the shop, getting our surf fix.

The surf shop was more than just a place to buy stuff. It was a hangout, a community hub, a starting line for surf trips and friendships. Sometimes we even got lucky and became shop groms , paid in wax, stickers, or maybe a t-shirt if we were lucky. We felt part of the crew, part of the surf dream.

Now, on International Surf Shop Day, we’re proud to be that place for the next generation.

Come say 'hi'. Stroke a surfboard. Ask for tip-top surf  advice. Groms always welcome. But remember, no dropping in on us at Ceiriad on a solid day. You’ve got to  earn that. 🤭

Surf shops still matter! No algorithm can replace that first-hand knowledge, honest advice, or that feeling of stepping into your happy place.

We’re still groms at heart…..and always will be. 💦

Happy International Surf Shop Day ✌️
